dadadadaaaaaa

After days of frustration with a bazillion Kiki's Delivery Service doodles where I'm all "I'm not feeling it," I just decided last night to try to scribble Ashitaka since ...THIS GUY :icontearplz:

Princess Mononoke was honestly my first Miyazaki film (caught my sister watching a rented VHS copy of it from a neighbourhood shop when I was 10). The animation is insane and... "BLEEDING PIGS AND WOLVES EVERYWHERE AAAAH ;A;!" This movie is SO FREAKIN' EPIC that just remembering it brings some fangirl tears to my eyes.

Miyazaki, you're my hero. for all time.

This is so cool!
I feel like this is exactly what he would look like if he was real!

Mountainnns. :'0 You don't know how much adding that little bit does for me. Yey for characters in environments!

EEE and super realism going on here. This is actually an interesting depiction, because Miyazaki intended for Ashitaka's character to be a descendant of the Ainu people of Japan, which had uniquely European physical characteristics: such as differing eye shape, stature, and body hair that Jomon and other people of Japan differed so greatly from. I mean, they look like European guys '_'...

And herre Ashitaka looks like a white guy, which is how Ainu men looked! D'; So, I am a little impressed and surprised you would choose to go this direction instead of making him look Asian.

Your linework when it comes to attention to detail is just so adept and distinct I could probably discern his age. And the eyes/eyebrows are fantasmo. Maybe the right one is a little long horizontally, but it doesn't really bug me, because they are reading a real intelligence with obviously some troubling things on his mind.

I'm glad you were able to make a post. Maybe that's a sign that things are better than they sounded on Teh Grotto.

Mountaaaaaaains! I almost added the Elk in there (it's a really beautifully animated animal!), but it would have taken up the other half of the picture and may have just been too much, taking away from Ashitaka here! YAY for characters in environments! *cheers with morning tea mug awwyeeeah*!

Your comment about the Ainu people: "And herre Ashitaka looks like a white guy, which is how Ainu men looked!" THE MOAR YOU KNOW *rainbowwwww* I didn't know that! I was actually slapping my forehead after posting this drawing because I forgot (some dumb reason) that Princess Mononoke is a historical work taking place in Japan! [vs Castle in the Sky, which...I think was in a generic fantasy setting?] Your comment put a GIANT smile on my face since I didn't flub as bad as I thought I did! yaaay ~:tea: LUCKY COINCIDENCE FTW

thank you thank you! Age is an REALLY important factor when dealing in realism (so happy you pointed that out~ :3), and I really like the eyes/eyebrows too! OHHHHH and you keep impressing me! *G* "because [the eyes] are reading a real intelligence with obviously troubling things on his mind." HHHNGH you are SO GOOD at picking up nuanceeeeesssss I can't even

your welcome! I'm happy I had time to scribble up something for this week too! My situation earlier was BAD, but I think it's lightening up now...hopefully

Baha :'0 You're supposed to say of course you knew Ashitaka was Ainu hence not asian looking (in the traditional sense anyway). Oh honesty.

An elk! I love elk... especially the rare red one in the movie. Speaking of elk... I had this idea for a romantic man/elk beast thing a little while back, but never got past the idea stage. lole. :jots down note:

I'm still oblivious to this situation other than knowing that somehow your neighbors were responsible? Ieeee. So I guess whenever you've recovered, I'll be around t'hear it.

And I heard you have a lot of unfinished scribbles laying around that you don't like! PFFT, I know you'd jump on one of my scribbles in 2 seconds and perfect it's many flaws x-x...sometimes it's hard to get motivated by your own work I guess.

Keep truckin' lady.

Exactly!
But I think my shitty Username says all. >A<

Nice drawing style you have! I love to see anime characters in a (more) naturalistic drawing style. :)

thank you Annanoke >w<!! drawing cartoon/animu characters in a realistic style seems to be my shtick lately! I'm thrilled people are digging it~ it's an interesting experiment/game to try to fill in the gaps with character design (i.e. cartoon/anime --> realism [making up information when drawing facial features of an originally simplified design] vs realism --> cartoon/anime [simplifying reality])

p.s. Annonoke is a beautiful username! don't be silly
